Whitko Softball 4, Tippecanoe Valley 1
The big inning was the difference as Whitko hoisted the hardware Thursday night as champions of the Class 2-A Wabash Sectional.
Whitko scored all of its runs in the fourth inning, starting the inning with a hit-by-pitch and a Valley defensive error, which set up some station-to-station execution. Erin Starkweather started the run with an RBI single, followed by a Gus Garr RBI double. A Valley defensive error afforded Whitko another opportunity, and Guinny Garr plated another run for a stunning four-run burst.
Valley started the scoring with a run in the top of the first, a Brittney Benn double bringing home Brayden Baney.
That was about all Gus Garr would allow, holding the Vikings (13-15) to three hits and two walks, striking out eight in the complete game championship performance.
Macy Kirchenstien and Corinna Stiles each allowed three hits and combined for seven strikeouts in their work in the circle for the Vikings.
The Wildcats (12-12) claimed its sixth sectional championship, its third title in the past four seasons played.
