George Floyd Memorial Tuesday Night At Courthouse
Staff Report
WARSAW — A local group has organized a memorial to be held on the courthouse lawn Tuesday, May 25, to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the death of George Floyd.
Voices of Injustice, which has a Facebook page, said the event will begin at 5 p.m. outside the Kosciusko County Courthouse where a handful of peaceful rallies were held last year.
There will be speeches and a presentation as well as a prayer and a moment of silence.
A food pantry will also be accepting donations.
Floyd died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes on May 25 of last year.
His death brought worldwide attention to the issue of police relations with people of color and led to a wave of street demonstrations and riots against his killing.
Derek Chauvin, a white former Minneapolis policeman, was found guilty of murdering him. Three other officers still face charges.
