WARSAW — Ronald Morrell Jr. wants those in smaller cities to enjoy some of the same activities as in larger ones.
They can do that through his business Morrell’s Scooters, which has now come to Kosciusko County.
The Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce had a ribbon-cutting for the electronic scooter company on Friday, May 21. People can now use the scooters in Warsaw and Winona Lake.
“When I started this company, I had a vision to serve every small town in Indiana,” Morrell said. “A lot of times, innovations like this skip over small towns, so I really have a passion for bringing some of the big city ideas to small-town Indiana.”
He started the business in 2019 in Marion, where he’s from. Other places people can rent his scooters include Gas City, Upland and Wabash.
People will find the scooters available near Mad Anthony’s Lake City Tap House and at Central Park. In Winona Lake, the scooters will be found at The Village at Winona. Students at Grace College will be able to rent them as well on campus.
It costs $1 to rent the scooters, plus 40 cents per minute they are in use. People have to use the GOAT Scooter App, which may be found on the App Store or Google Play, to rent them.
There are instructions for using the scooters and the number for a customer service line written on them.
The scooters are each tracked by GPS, said Morrell, and the scooters lock up when not in use to prevent theft.
Morrell also works for Youth for Christ, a Christian organization that reaches out to youths, in Marion. He says his two careers are linked.
“My biggest thing is I try to teach faith and entrepreneurship,” he said. “I spend a lot of time working with children from poorer backgrounds, so I want to be able to give them ways to teach them how you can have faith but also give them tangible ways to live in this current life and make money.”
