Syracuse Library Activities Updated
News Release
SYRACUSE – Here is an update of activities happening at the Syracuse Public Library this week.
Welcome Back Summer People
Print, connect, copy or fax are things people do at a public library when one’s copier is broken or just because it is a good deal. Any person who owns or rents property in Turkey Creek township is eligible for a free library card, but print, copy, computer, and faxing are available for anyone. An Evergreen library card lets the owner pick up some packets of seeds to plant through May.
This winter a book challenge was started that is ending in October. It is not too late to sign up and create a reading challenge. Those that participate are eligible for a drawing from a collection of prizes and an invitation to an awards evening.
Book Clubs and Story Times
Story Times continue in May and into summer. Wednesdays are for songs and toys with stories at 10:30 a.m. Fridays at 10:30 a.m. are storytimes for younger children but will be open to children of all ages in June. The children’s department is planning many fun events through the summer. Stop in to do a scavenger hunt and take a craft to make at home.
The adult book club is reading Trevor Noah’s biography of growing up in South Africa, Born a Crime. Copies of the book are available for anyone to pick up. Two discussions are scheduled in June. A zoom meeting on Tuesday, June 15 at 6 p.m. and an in-person meeting on Thursday, June 17 at 1 p.m.
In-person startups
After a year hiatus Mahjong is back. The Syracuse Library has several sets of tiles and the 2021 game cards. Drop in to learn or play with others on every other Monday at 10 a.m. The next game days are May 17, June 7 and June 21.
People that are interested in creating pollinator-friendly spaces and identifying pollinators and the plants they need for pollen have a new group at the Syracuse Library. The first meeting will share information resources on Wednesday, May 26 at 2 p.m. Save the date and come where everyone is learning.
