Garwin Eaton — UPDATED
Garwin Eaton, 83, rural Mentone, passed at 7:05 a.m., Sunday, May 9, 2021, at Paddock Springs of Warsaw, where he had been residing for the past three weeks.
Garwin was born July 4, 1937, in Silver Lake, to the late Marshall E. and Helene (Bashore) Eaton. He married Peggy Lou Tinkey Nov. 22, 1956, in the Burket United Methodist Church. She survives.
Garwin was a lifelong farmer. He was a graduate of Mentone High School in 1955. He served as past REMC Director for Kosciusko County. He was a past Trustee of the Burket United Methodist Church where he had been a member. He also attended Warsaw Community Church.
He loved sports, especially basketball, and was one of the biggest Tippecanoe Valley fans. He always enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren play at their events. He was known as a regular at the coffee shops, which included Teel’s, the Beehive, and the Burket Restaurant. The love of his life was his shih tzu George that he adopted.
He is survived by his wife Peg Eaton, Mentone; children Kevin and wife Terri Eaton, Claypool; Greg and wife Flo Eaton, Morrisville, N.C.; Kelly and husband Jeff Howard, Rochester; Stacy and husband Kenny Johnson, Claypool; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two nieces
Garwin was preceded in death by his parents, a great grandson Issac, a sister Patricia Ann Syler, and a niece Vicki Parson.
The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 13, at King Memorial Home 101 North Tucker Street Mentone, Indiana with Pastor Jamy Gregory officiating. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral service.
The interment will take place in the Palestine Cemetery, Palestine.
Visitation hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
