Keith M. Witmer, 94, Novi, Mich., died Friday, Feb. 7, 2020.
He was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Pierceton, a son of the late Fletcher and Reba Witmer.
Keith graduated from North Central College in Naperville, Ill. and then received a master’s degree from Northwestern University and the University of Michigan.
He taught music in several schools in Indiana before moving to the Detroit area where he taught at Redford High School. He retired in 1985 from Schoolcraft College at a counselor.
Using his music education, he directed church choirs in Chicago, LaPorte and Trinity United Methodist Church in Detroit.
Surviving is his loving wife, Natalie “Tally” of Novi; stepdaughter, Dianne Phillips and her partner Kathy Kowalski; a stepson Donald A. (Elizabeth) Maxwell, Jr.; grandchildren: Donald A. Maxwell, III, Joseph T. Sierzenga, IV and Jaimi E. Sierzenga.
Additionally, he was preceded in death by stepchildren, Peter N. and Paul H. Phillips, and Marcia R. Maxwell.
An interment service is 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the West Etna Cemetery, 750 N and 650 W, Columbia City. Local arrangements are by Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
