Tuesday was senior night for 11 Valley Vikings on both the boys and girls sides of the bench.
“It’s always hard saying goodbye to these amazing kids who almost all have run all four years,” said Vikings’ head coach Jenny Moriarty. “These seniors are going to go do great things!”
The night was kicked off with junior Rex Kirchenstien, “who is one of those kids that every coach is excited to have,” according to Moriarty. He proved that on Tuesday, setting two individual school records that were established back in 1986 by Andrew Wood, running the 100 in 10.66 and the 200 in 22.94.
The 4×100 boys relay consisting of Braden Shepherd, Jamasyn Virgil, Wade Jones and Kirchenstien once again broke their own record running with a 44.50. Field events again were the boys golden ticket to collecting major points. Wade Melanson threw for a first in shot put with a 48-3 with teammate Dalton Alber finishing second. The Alber brothers, Dalton and Brant, took second and third in discus. The Valley boys also collected points in high jump and long jump.
On the girls side, senior Sidney Wagner PR’d with a high jump of 4-8, taking second. Chesnee Miller also PR’d in long jump by more than 10 inches jumping to 15-4. Miller also took first in the 3200 and third in the 1600. The girls field events earned points with Chloe Shepherd taking a second in discus and Mallory Durkes grabbing third.
The Vikings are back at it Friday for the Jimtown Invitational at 5:30 p.m.
