News Release
WARRENSBURG, N.Y. — Ruthann Angle, 75, a retired teacher/counselor at Wawasee High School and formerly of Milford, was among two people who died after being hit by an 18-wheeled logging truck on Warrensburg’s Main Street (Route 9). The crash took place around 1:15 p.m. Friday, April 23.
Angle, now of North Manchester; her niece, Dana Kaplan-Angle, 33, of Brooklyn, N.Y, and Robert Dowling, 33, also of Brooklyn were visiting the area and had been visiting local shops earlier that day.
Angle and her niece died on scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Dowling was taken to the Glens Falls Hospital with injuries that were believed to be non-life threatening, according to police.
The driver, James Flynn, 46, Queensbury, was turning his 2006 Peterbuilt semitractor/trailer, belonging to W. Cooking Trucking and Logging, left from Richards Avenue onto Main Street and struck the group of three pedestrians within the intersection.
The accident was next to Hudson Headwaters Health Network’s Warrensburg Health Center. A group of doctors, nurses and medical staff from the center were first on the scene to render aid until emergency crews arrived.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, the Warrensburg Fire Department, the Warrensburg Rescue Squad, the Lake George Rescue Squad and by the New York State Department of Transportation.
According to The Post Star, there are three crosswalks near where the incident took place, but only one has a set of crossing signals notifying pedestrians when to safely cross. There are no crossing signals at the Richards Avenue crossing.
The crash remains under investigation.
