Richard Elwood McCarty
Richard Elwood McCarty, 86, Wabash, went to be with his Lord Friday, April 23, 2021, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1934, in Van Lear, Ky., to John and Alma (Arms) McCarty.
He married Elizabeth “Libby” Baldwin on Dec. 31, 1955, in Paintsville, Ky. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for General Motors in Marion for just over 31 years, retiring in June 1991. He was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church in Wabash, and U.A.W. He was an avid Kentucky Wildcat Basketball fan, and enjoyed watching them. He also used to sing in the Wabash Quartet with his wife Libby and Estel and Genevieva Haney.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years: Libby McCarty, Wabash; two daughters: Jenny (Darrell) McCarty Richardson, Somerset; and Darlene McCarty, Wabash; two granddaughters: Amanda (Larry) Boggs, Wabash; and Amy (Aaron) Rosen, Urbana; five great-grandchildren: Austin (Paige) Boggs, Indianapolis; Leigha (Jasper Donaldson) Boggs, Wabash; Cole Rosen and Addy Rosen, both of Urbana; and Abbie Boggs, Wabash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Gary Elwood McCarty; four brothers: John W. McCarty, Bob McCarty, Elijah McCarty, and Russell Lloyd McCarty; and two sisters: Roberta Ratliff and Joy Rice.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 26, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, with Rev. Tim Webb officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at the funeral home.
