WARSAW — The Warsaw Police Department received permission from the city’s Board of Public Works and Safety to pursue quotes for three new vehicles during a meeting on Friday, April 16.
Warsaw Police Chief Scott Whitaker made the request on behalf of the department; the police department wants to get three sealed quotes for the purchase of three Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles, which is similar to a sporty utility vehicle.
WPD’s budget for 2021 supports the purchase. Sealed quotes will be opened at the Board of Works’ next meeting on May 7.
The board also approved road closures for the Kosciusko County Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market, which will run on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 1 to Oct. 30. Center Street between Lake and Buffalo Streets, plus the civic plaza, will be closed on those Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent Larry Plummer was present at the meeting regarding the department’s annual contribution to the Winona Lake-Warsaw Independence Day Celebration. As in years past, this contribution comes out of the park department’s budget.
The fireworks display will take place over Winona Lake at 10 p.m. Saturday, July 3, with a rain date of Sunday, July 4.
In other business, the board gave Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory permission to apply for a K21 Health Foundation grant for mechanical CPR devices. WWFT EMS Coordinator Chris Fancil made the request, which was also brought before the WWFT board on April 6.
The next regular meeting will be at 11:15 a.m. Friday, May 7, at Warsaw City Hall.
