WARSAW — As we move into April, here are some highlights over the next 30 days:
HOLIDAYS
- April 1 is All Fools’ Day, otherwise known as April Fools’ Day
- April 2 is Good Friday
- April 4 is Easter Sunday
- April 15 is known as the deadline to file tax returns but that has been shelved for a month. The tax deadline for state and federal has been extended to May 17 due to the pandemic.
- April 22 is Earth Day
- April 30 is National Arbor Day
TRIVIA
- Those born in April have a diamond as their birthstone, which represents innocence. The birth flower is either a Daisy or a Sweet Pea.
- There are two zodiac signs in April: Aries, which is until April 19, and Taurus, which is April 20 and onward.
- On April 15, 1912, the famous Titanic ship hit an iceberg and sunk on her first and only voyage.
- George Washington was inaugurated as the First President of the United States on April 30, 1789.
- On April 11, 1970, Apollo 13 was launched and ran into difficulties approximately two days later. It was then that the famous – and often misquoted – line “Houston, we’ve had a problem here” was said.
EVENTS
- April 1 – Major League Baseball kicks off the regular season today with a full slate of games beginning this afternoon.
- April 3 — The start of the national semifinals of the NCAA tournament
- April 17 — The Symphony of the Lakes will perform the pop concert “Celebrations” at 7 p.m. at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center on the Grace College Campus. Dr. Ardis Faber will be the conductor for the program, which also features local artist Christi Ziebarth painting on stage during part of the performance.
