Griner Among Patriot League Award Winners

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point track and field team took home five of the six Patriot League weekly awards, the league office announced this week.
Brooke Stratman was tabbed both the women’s field athlete of the week and the rookie of the week. Kevin Sembrat (men’s track athlete of the week), August Cook (men’s field athlete of the week) and Luke Griner (men’s rookie of the week) were Army’s award winners on the men’s side.
Griner won the 800 meters with a time of 1:50.02 and was part of the Black Knights’ winning 4×400-meter relay that placed first with a time of 3:15.02 in a dual meet against Army West Point. His time in the 800 meters qualified for IC4A Championships and is the sixth-best in NCAA DI this spring. Griner is a 2019 Wawasee High School graduate.
Stratman captured top honors in the javelin with a personal best of 48.46 meters, a mark that ranks third in Army West Point program history. Her throw is the best in the Patriot League and tied for 18th-best in NCAA DI this season.
Sembrat won the 400 meters in a Patriot League-best IC4A-qualifying time of 48.88 in a dual meet against Monmouth. The junior sprinter was also part of the Black Knights’ 4×400-meter relay squad that won with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:15.02.
Cook took first place in the javelin with a throw of 72.76 meters, besting the second-place finisher by more than five meters in a dual meet against Monmouth. His throw is the best in the Patriot League this season and ranks fourth in NCAA DI.
