Woman Arrested After Allegedly Battering Two Children
Staff Report
LIGONIER — A woman from Ligonier was recently arrested in Noble County after battering two children.
Amber Castro, 307 E. Miller St., Ligonier, is charged with two counts of domestic battery resulting in bodily injury to a person under the age of 14, both level 5 felonies.
On March 5, a Ligonier Police officer received a report of three children locking a babysitter out of a residence. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with two children.
According to court documents, one of the children said Castro entered their bedroom and asked for their cellphone. When the child did not give Castro their cellphone, Castro allegedly jumped on top of them and started punching them in the stomach.
The second child said when Castro started punching the first child in the stomach, they grabbed a hold of Castro to pull her off of the child. The child said when they did this, Castro began hitting them and pulling them by the hair.
They said Castro then dragged them out of the room by their hair and threw them up against a wall.
Castro admitted to smoking marijuana prior to this incident.
The third child told the officer they ran out of the house when Castro came into the room and started fighting with the other two children. They said they ran outside with a cellphone and called a relative.
Castro has a pretrial conference for this case on May 24.
