Phyllis R. Newcomer
Phyllis R. Newcomer, 61, New Paris, passed away at 5 a.m., Monday, March 15, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.
She was born May 14, 1959, in Chicago, Ill. to Steve and Gloria (Ehrig) Horvath. Phyllis moved to Syracuse at the age of 14 and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1977 Wawasee High School graduate.
On April 7, 1984, she married Dale Newcomer at Turkey Creek Church of the Brethren in Gravelton.
Phyllis enjoyed her work in food service at Benton Elementary and was a member of the Maple Grove Church. She enjoyed sports. Phyllis was involved in playing softball and volleyball and enjoyed watching little league ball and baseball games, especially the Chicago Cubs. She enjoyed antiquing and going to craft bizarres and flea markets. Most of all Phyllis enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Surviving is her husband, Dale Newcomer, New Paris; sons: Dustin (Amanda) Newcomer, Goshen; Zachary (Katherine) Newcomer, Indianola, Iowa; Bradley (Ashley Markin) Newcomer, Goshen; sisters: Linda (Dave) Lalor, Ohio; Debbie (Robert) Dobson, Ill.; brother, Steve (Nancy) Horvath, S.C.
Family and friends may call from 2-8 p.m., Friday, March 19, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and 10-11 a.m., Saturday, March 20, followed by a 11 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home. Pastor Dwayne Runkle, with Maple Grove Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
