Warsaw Library: Our Diverse World
By Amy Mann
Children’s Services
Look around you. What colors do you see? Do you notice any interesting textures in things nearby? How do the fabrics that compose your clothes feel on your skin? Are you warm or chillY/ Do you hear anything, or is your environment silent at the moment? Our wonderful world is diverse. If everything was uniform, it might be difficult to conjure up joy every morning.
National Geographic and other publishers offer content from around the world celebrating the diversity of the animal kingdom, oceans and deserts, homes and people. WCPL’s shelves brim with books about plants and animals that seem as though they came from the realm of science fiction. As Louis Armstrong said, “What a wonderful world.”
As the world around us is diverse, so are we as human beings. We come from different places, are accustomed to different things and have different abilities and interests. We also are alike in essential ways. We all yearn for meaningful relationships, security and for our daily needs to be met.
Let’s celebrate the ways we can understand and respect different cultures and ways of doing things. WCPL is continuing its 104-year-old mission of bringing educational, entertainment and genealogy resources to the area. If you want diverse content, WCPL is the place to find it. From children’s picture books to newly published adult books and magazines, WCPL has a wide variety of visual, auto and reading material, available at the building during operating hours or online 24/7.
Come see the library’s new poster featuring “Extraordinary Women of Children’s Services” to help highlight International Women’s Day on March 8. Express yourself in WCPL’s new virtual art program for elementary school-aged patrons. “Blooming Art” is coming to the library. Learn from an expert how to commune with nature as you create something for your house or yard. It will be online from 5-6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month and will continue through August.
