Doris Elaine Whitehead
Doris Elaine Whitehead, 89, Syracuse, died 3 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 2021, at her home. She was born March 15, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., to Galen and Lillian (Zamastil) Lehman. On July 14, 1951, she married Richard (Dick) Whitehead.
Surviving are her husband, Richard, Syracuse; sons, Barry (Debra) Whitehead, Syracuse; Brett Whitehead, New Paris; grandchildren: Cory Whitehead of Illinois; Casie (Billy) Bontrager, Goshen; Dustin (Heather) Whitehead, Syracuse; DeeAnn Whitehead, Millersburg; Mindy (Kevin) Park, Goshen; Bryce (Ali) Whitehead, Goshen; Matt (Ashley) Whitehead, Goshen; Samantha (Nate) Steffen, New Paris; step-grandchild, Reagan Nyce; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death are her parents, sister, Dorothy Lehman, son, Craig Whitehead and daughter-in-law, Diana Whitehead.
Doris was a 1949 graduate of New Paris High School. She was a farm wife and a factory worker (KMC) until retiring in 2001. Doris was an active member of the New Paris Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed activities and parties with her Sunday School class. Doris loved having her family gather together and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very generous and outgoing to her family and friends. Bowling, Euchre, cooking and eating at the Fashion Farm were some of her favorite things.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the noon service Monday, March 15, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. The service will be live streamed through rrefh.com website, click on Doris’s tribute page and then click on photos/videos. Pastor Stan Godfrey will officiate, and burial will follow at Solomon Creek Cemetery.
