Donald E. Walter
Donald E. Walter, 84, Goshen, formerly of Foraker, died 5:16 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born April 4, 1936, in Union Twp., Nappanee, to Robert and Catherine (Leinbach) Walter. On June 1, 1956, at Union Center Church of the Brethren, he married Doris (Weldy) Walter. She died Nov. 10, 2017.
Surviving are sons: Kent (Karen) Walter, Nappanee; Edward Walter, New Paris; daughter, Melody Sandlin, Goshen; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a brother, Richard D. Walter, Nappanee.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, Doris and a brother, Robert Walter.
Donald was a 1954 graduate of New Paris High School. As a member of Union Center Church of the Brethren, he read Bible stories to the children during Sunday morning church and served in numerous other positions. He was a scrap metal dealer and worked at various area factories as a welder. Don was a member of the Foraker Fire Department for 25 years and a charter member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. He set up numerous fundraisers for the Galilean Children’s Home in Liberty, Ky. He volunteered at Greencroft and homeless shelters.
Don loved life, was very gracious and selfless.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. Visitation will be one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, March 17, at Living Gospel Church, 302 W. Walnut St., Nappanee. Pastor Mike Raasch will officiate, and burial will follow at Union Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family request memorial donations be given to Living Gospel Church Building Fund.
