Zirille Stars At Huntington Regional

HUNTINGTON – Gina Zirille was the star of the show Saturday at the Huntington Gymnastics Regional.
The Homestead sophomore piled up a 38.075 to claim the all-around, and won three of the four individual disciplines along the way. Zirille scored 9.75 on vault, 9.65 on bars and 9.425 on beam to earn the blue ribbons, and was third on floor.
Fort Wayne Carroll’s Julia Goodine was the top floor performer at 9.425 and would take third in all-around to secure a full state spot.
Performers feeding into the Huntington Regional from the Wawasee Sectional that will advance to state include East Noble’s Miah Hudson, who scored 9.25 on vault to place sixth. Elkhart’s Mia Echartea was fourth on floor at 9.175, landing inside the top six to earn automatic berth to the IHSAA State Finals next weekend at Ball State.
DeKalb’s Sarah Boyd will also perform next weekend, scoring 36.225 in all-around to make it another week and Angola’s team placed third, earning one of the team places next week.
Homestead won the regional title with 110.15 points, besting Dwenger (108.8) and Angola (107.25). Carroll, DeKalb and Elkhart rounded out the team standings.
Tessa Hutchinson of Plymouth also performed at Huntington, scoring 8.8 on vault and 8.725 on beam.
