Roy Eugene Ehrsam
Roy Eugene Ehrsam, 78, Decatur, died Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1943, in Decatur, to the late Hubert Ehrssam and the late Mary Rosita (Gulick) Ehrsam. On March 9, 1968, Roy married Beverly A. Null and she preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 2016.
Ehrsam served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves.
He was a current member of First United Methodist Church in Decatur. He was always active in the churches teaching Sunday school for over 50 years at Pleasant Mills Methodist, Decatur Missionary Church and currently at First United Methodist Church.
Ehrsam was a 1961 graduate of Pleasant Mills High School. He was a longtime grain and livestock farmer in Adams County, he delivered newspapers for the Journal Gazette for 11 years and had also been employed at Bi-County Services in Decatur for 14 years.
He is survived by four daughters, Carrie (Tom) Bittner of Decatur, Elizabeth Sisson of Monroe, Rachel Miller of Nappanee, and Esther (Maurizo) Giambrone of New Albany; two sons, Lee (Betsy) Ehrsam of Decatur and Theodore Ehrsam of Indianapolis, 12 grandchildren, Bradly (Abigail) Bittner, Michelle (Dominick) Brown, Daniel (Vanessa) Bittner, Paul Roy Sisson, Ryan Miller, Weston Miller, Autumn Miller, Salvatore Roy Giambrone, Kloe Ehrsam, Derek Ehrsam, Caleb Ehrsam and Josie Ehrsam; one step-granddaughter, Tatiana (Ryan) Marsh; four great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Brown, Silas Brown, Jenson Brown and Lincoln Brown and baby Bittner on the way; and one stepgreat-granddaughter, Eva Marsh.
Ehrsam was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; a granddaughter, Ashley M. Bittner in 1998; a sister, in infancy; and son-in-law, Tom Sisson in 2015.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 8, at Pleasant Mills United Methodist Church with Pastor Karen Garner, Pastor Ernie Suman and Pastor Harold Klinker officiating. Burial will follow after the service at Decatur Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, 520 N. Second St., Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Preferred memorials are to Pleasant Mills United Methodist Church or Donor’s Choice.
