SYRACUSE — With the heartfelt announcement, “It is a blessing being here and I never forget that everyone around me is why I am here,” Phil Rich, owner of Rich Gallery in downtown Syracuse, snipped the ribbon at a Saturday, Feb. 13, ceremony celebrating the expansion of his business.
“I wouldn’t be here without the strong support of my family, friends and clients,” he said after the ribbon cutting attended by about 40 persons.
His wife, Britt, co-owns the gallery and also recently opened Rich Beauty Parlor at 808 S. Huntington St., Syracuse.
Renae Salyer, executive director of Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce, who attended the ceremony, applauded the business’s development. “I think it is great to have someone who expands their business in Syracuse,” she said. “They took that space left from the beauty parlor and made it more. I love to see our downtown full.
“We always want to keep businesses thriving and expanding and anything the chamber can do to assist the businesses, we are here to help.”
The 2,000-square-foot gallery and parlors specializes in tattoos, semi-permanent and permanent makeup, microblading, consigned art and various other forms of artwork. The business also sells silkscreened T-shirts.
The gallery, which employs three full-time artists, is located at 101 E. Main St., Syracuse.
Business is brisk. “I am currently booking 12 weeks in advance for any service,” said Rich, a certified microblading specialist.
Rich completed a tattoo apprenticeship in Warsaw in 2008-2009 while earning a degree in business administration at Ivy Tech.
A certified Bob Ross instructor, Rich teaches beginning painting classes in front of the studio’s indoor waterfall. “I literally learned to paint watching his shows when I was 24 or 25. I’ve only been painting nine or 10 years.”
He is currently negotiating details to craft an outdoor mural in Syracuse, which he hopes to start “soon.”
Rich Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
The beauty parlor is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
