SILVER LAKE – The town of Silver Lake took another step toward improving the facades on some downtown businesses.
Council selected one of two proposals Wednesday night for consulting work involving possible improvements for seven storefronts.
Council chose SRKM Architects, of Warsaw, to do the work for $10,500. The other bid was from the Troyer Group, Mishawaka, for $19,900.
Information from the work will help determine the condition of the buildings in preparation of seeking grant money.
The move represents an opportunity to enhance the downtown, said Council President Hugh Murfin.
“We’ll see if we can get Silver Lake fixed up and get people to want to live here more,” Murfin said.
In other matters, the board:
- Heard from Street and Sewer Superintendent JT Prater who provided a quote he received for a new leaf collection system. His preferred choice would cost $77,081. Council took it under advisement.
- Approved a change in the way the town leases farmland. This year, it will extend it to five years instead of one. The land is behind the fire station.
- The next meeting is 7 p.m., March 10.
