VALPARAISO – Northridge’s dynamic diving duo of Jiselle Miller and Kaitlin Simons continued their torrid run this season, claiming the top two spots at Tuesday night’s Valpo Diving Regional.
Miller and Simons didn’t post the eye-popping numbers they had at last weekend’s sectional, but were just as impressive in blowing away the remainder of the field.
Miller had a 475.45 Tuesday night with Simons close behind at 460.30 as the clear-cut top two, South Bend Adams’ Lindsay Gizzi in third at 408.45. Miller and Simons crushed the sectional field last weekend with Miller’s record score of 530.95 and Simons four points back.
The top eight divers from Valpo advance to the IHSAA State Finals this weekend. The flood for the final five qualifiers was a jumble of six divers separated by just 13 points. Fourth place was Valpo’s Lindsey Giesler at 364.15, then followed by Concord’s Ryleigh Robinson (361.45), South Bend Adams’ Katie Hensell (360.70), Northridge’s Mila Opacich (360.25) and Culver Academy’s Claire Feick (357.35).
Pioneer’s Grace Ulrich was on the outside looking in, taking ninth at 351.80.
Other area divers included Lilly Deeds of Mishawaka (213.65), Grace Dittmer of Penn (211.60) and Claudia Marohn of Plymouth (193.55).
