Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 12:31 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, South SR 25 and West CR 200S, Warsaw. Drivers: Alishia N. Bennett, 34, North Runkle Drive, Warsaw, and Ashton H. Perkins, 28, Sunnydale Lane, Napoleon, Ohio. Bennett’s vehicle was traveling behind Perkins’ on SR 25 in the area of CR 200S, Warsaw. Perkins began to turn right onto CR 200S, and Bennett failed to see him signal to turn. Her vehicle hit Perkins’. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- Noon Sunday, Feb. 7, South SR 25 south of West CR 250S, Warsaw. Driver: Matthew D. Hume, 20, South CR 780W, Mentone. Hume was traveling southbound on SR 25 in the area of CR 250S, Warsaw. His vehicle went around a curve, and he lost control of it due to the snow on the edge of the roadway. His vehicle went into a steep ditch and struck several trees. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, West CR 525S west of South CR 450W, Warsaw. Driver: Travis T. Wright, 40, West Turner Road, Claypool. Wright was traveling eastbound on West CR 525S west of South CR 450W, Warsaw, when his vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 12600 S. Lot 13, North Manchester. Driver: Jeremy J. Lester, 46, South SR 13, North Manchester. Lester was turning his vehicle left and had trouble turning due to the ice on the drive. His vehicle hit a parked vehicle. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 1:19 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, South CR 300E south of East CR 1200S, North Manchester. Driver: Justus C. Metzger, 19, North CR 100E, Milford. Metzger was traveling southbound on South CR 300E just south of East CR 1200S, North Manchester. His vehicle went off the roadway, and it overturned, coming to a stop upside down. The roadway was icy with snow covering it. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 12:05 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, East Wooster Road west of South CR 500E, Pierceton. Driver: Joseph S. Scutchfield, 50, West Sunset Shore Drive, Silver Lake. Scutchfield lost control of his vehicle due to ice on the roadway. It left the roadway and went backwards through a fence. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 7:35 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, McKenna Road east of EMS B38 Lane, Warsaw. Driver: Stacey A. Johns, 32, North Harrison Street, Syracuse. Johns was traveling eastbound on McKenna Road in the area of EMS B38 Lane, Warsaw, when her vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 5:38 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, CR 600N west of North Old SR 15, Warsaw. Drivers: Bonnie S. Shepherd, 63, West CR 750S, Claypool, and Angela L. McCleary, 45, South Packerton Road, Warsaw. Shepherd was traveling on CR 600N and stopped her vehicle at the stop sign at the intersection of North Old SR 15, Warsaw. McCleary was traveling southbound on North Old SR 15 in the area of CR 600N. Shepherd was in a hurry and started traveling through the intersection because she thought McCleary had a stop sign to stop at as well. Their vehicles collided. Damage: Up to $25,000.
- 12:57 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, North CR 800W north of West CR 400N, Warsaw. Driver: Dewey H. Strong, 43, East Sixth Street, Peru. Strong was pulling a trailer with his vehicle northbound on CR 800W in the area of CR 400N, Warsaw. He lost control of his vehicle due to the road conditions. It left the roadway and flipped on its side. The trailer hit a utility pole and phone box. Damage: Up to $25,000.
- 12:29 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, West CR 1000N north of North CR 650W, Milford. Driver: Andrew O. Sparks, 31, West CR 1000N, Milford. Sparks was traveling westbound on West CR 1000N at the intersection of North CR 650W, Milford. Sparks lost control of his vehicle due to road conditions, and it left the road. It rolled coming to rest on its roof. Sparks was able to exit his vehicle and travel to a house for help. He also contacted dispatch. He complained of shoulder and rib pain and was taken to a hospital. Damage: Up to $50,000.
- 11:43 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, East CR 1000N east of North CR 700E, Syracuse. Driver: Chase R. Johnson, 24, EMS D21 Lane, Syracuse. Johnson was traveling westbound on East CR 1000N just east of North CR 700E, Syracuse. He lost control of the vehicle due to road conditions, and it left the roadway and hit a pole. Johnson complained of head pain and was checked out by medics. Damage: Up to $25,000.
- 4:02 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, East CR 1000N and North CR 1000E, Cromwell. Drivers: Noah P. Horn, 16, North CR 650E, Warsaw, and Robert E. Geller, 55, East Seneca Lane, Cromwell. Horn was traveling southbound on CR 1000E, approaching CR 1000N, Cromwell. Geller was traveling eastbound on CR 1000N. The roads were covered in snow/ice, and there was rain/snow at the time of the collision. As Geller was turning north onto CR 1000E, Horn made a sudden right turn onto CR 1000N. Their vehicles collided. Horn’s vehicle struck a stop sign. Damage: Up to $5,000.
Mentone
Officers with the Mentone Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 11:50 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, West SR 25 east of Broadway Street, Mentone. Drivers: Janick S. Norris, 64, West Main Street, Mentone, and Troy A. Burgess, 54, South Morgan Street, Mentone. Norris was turning left onto Main Street, Mentone, and pulled into the path of Burgess’ vehicle that was backing out of an angled parking spot on Main Street. Damage: Up to $1,000.
North Webster
Officers with the North Webster Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 2:13 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, East Backwater Road and North CR 850E, North Webster. Drivers: Michael D. Jackson, 69, East Bond Street, North Webster, and Linda D. Land, 62, East South Barbee Drive, Pierceton. Jackson was in his vehicle sitting at the stop sign facing north on CR 850E and Backwater Road, North Webster. He turned left onto Backwater Road, and his vehicle hit Land’s vehicle. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 1:08 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 9237 E. Backwater Road, North Webster. Driver: Zackary T. Brickey, 20, East Boydston Mill Drive, North Webster. Brickey was traveling around the curve in Backwater Road, North Webster. The back end of his vehicle started sliding. It left the road and hit a guidewire, then slid into a tree. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 12:19 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, North CR 500E north of East CR 800N, North Webster. Driver: Chad A. Robison, 20, North Hillview Drive, Syracuse. Robison said his vehicle slid off the roadway due to ice and hit a line of small trees. Damage: Up to $5,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 11:39 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, US 30 east of SR 15, Warsaw. Driver: Armando Salazar, 60, Pleasant Court, Bremen. Salazar was traveling eastbound on US 30, Warsaw, when he lost control of his vehicle due to ice on the roadway. A witness said Salazar slid on ice at the overpass at SR 15. The vehicle slid off the roadway and impacted the guardrail, then flipped. Damage: Up to $25,000.
- 6:56 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, SR 15 and East Center Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Cody A. Cover, 34, West SR 25, Mentone, and Magdelene J. Gormaly, 19, East Clark Street, Warsaw. Cover was traveling eastbound on East Center Street, Warsaw. He turned his vehicle left onto SR 15. The road was slick due to snow, and his vehicle hit Gormaly’s. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 10:49 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, US 30 west of SR 15, Warsaw. Driver: Garvin L. Johnson, 78. Courtney Drive, New Haven. Johnson was traveling eastbound on US 30, approaching the exit ramp on SR 15, Warsaw, His vehicle entered the exit ramp and drove on the curve. He lost control of his vehicle, and it went off the roadway and struck two signs. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 10:02 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, US 30 and East Old Road 30, Warsaw. Drivers: Cameron B. Schoeff, 19, West Walker Street, Zanesville, and Shannon L. Webb, 40, Lake City Highway, Warsaw. Schoeff was traveling westbound on Lake City Highway approaching the intersection of East Old Road 30, Warsaw. He tried to slow his vehicle down, but due to speed and slick road conditions was unable to. His vehicle struck Webb’s, then hit a snow bank. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 9:09 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, East Center Street west of South Harrison Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Elyse L. Hardin, 36, West Prairie Street, Warsaw, and Jared K. Barrett, 34, West CR 150S, Warsaw. Hardin was traveling westbound on East Center Street near the intersection of South Harrison Street, Warsaw. Barrett was stopped in his vehicle facing west on East Center Street at the red light at the intersection of South Harrison Street. Hardin started to brake to slow her vehicle, but it slid on the snowy roadway and hit Barrett’s vehicle. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 5:10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, South Zimmer Road and West Winona Avenue, Warsaw. Drivers: Leah M. Ortiz, 30, East Ninth Street, North Manchester, and Dustin A. France, 37, West CR 750S, Rochester. Ortiz was traveling southbound on South Zimmer Road, Warsaw, behind France’s vehicle. France stopped his vehicle at the stop sign at the intersection of West Winona Avenue. Ortiz said the sun was in her eyes and she misjudged the distance between her vehicle and France’s. Her vehicle hit the back of France’s. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 4:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, East Center Street, near North McKinley Street, Warsaw. Drivers: David E. Porter, 43, Auditorium Boulevard, Winona Lake, and Gordon R. Bradley, 73, East CR 250S, Warsaw. Porter was traveling south on North McKinley Street and stopped at the East Center Street intersection. When he proceeded into the intersection, his vehicle hit Bradley’s. Damage up to $10,000.
- 3:46 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, Access Road and Husky Trail, Warsaw. Drivers: Preston M. Finke, 27, North Clark Street, Nappanee, and Kendall B. Hensley, 18, River Ridge Road, Tippecanoe. Finke was traveling southbound on Husky Trail, Warsaw, and was slowing his vehicle to make a right turn onto the access road behind CommunityWide Federal Credit Union. His vehicle started to slide due to the ice on the roadway, and it struck Hensley’s vehicle. Damage: Up to $2,500.
