PIERCETON — It’s been over a month since Belvas was brought to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County for medical care.
In one month’s time, the five-month-old Belgian Malinois puppy, who was diagnosed with the deadly canine virus, Parvo, and had the word “kill” shaved on his side, is now fully recovered and in a foster home with a loving family that is planning on adopting him.
In January, a good Samaritan found Belvas in the Claypool area and brought him to the AWL for assistance after he began showing signs of illness.
Staff administered a Parvovirus test and the results came back positive. Parvo is a deadly canine virus that causes vital organs to shut down and has a 5% survival rate. Belvas was also diagnosed with pneumonia.
A GoFundMe page was established for Belvas’ medical care; the GoFundMe raised over $7,500.
“We are so grateful for everyone who donated to his fundraiser and shared his story,” said AWL Executive Director Sally Scott. “We were able to fully cover his medical expenses with the money raised.”
