Warsaw Man Arrested For Stealing Trailer From Business
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for not returning a trailer to a business after the end of a 24-hour rental agreement.
William Austin Moore, 22, 964 W. Monoquet Road, Warsaw, is charged with theft, a level 6 felony.
On Jan. 6, a Warsaw Police officer went to Lake City Rental regarding a trailer that was rented but not returned. Upon arrival, the officer met with an employee who said he rented a black 20-foot trailer to Moore on Nov. 7, 2020.
According to court documents, the rental agreement was for 24 hours, meaning the trailer was to be returned by Nov. 8, 2020. As of Jan. 6, the trailer had yet to be returned. The trailer is valued at $4,526.85.
The officer eventually found Moore at his place of work. Moore told the officer that the trailer was at Empire Customs in Milford. He said he hadn’t returned the trailer because he was not done using it, even though the original signed agreement was for 24 hours only.
The officer and employee went to Empire Customs and found the trailer. Upon arrival, the officer noticed the trailer had damage to its rear lights and wiring harness. The employee said the damage was not there prior to it being rented to Moore.
Moore was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Feb. 3, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
