Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after hitting a woman in the face with a phone.
Rick Anthony Lupica, 51, 814 E. Arthur St., Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury and domestic battery with a child under 16 present, both level 6 felonies; and domestic battery and and criminal trespass, both class A misdemeanors.
On Jan. 4, a Warsaw Police officer went to a location regarding a domestic battery incident at Canterbury Apartments. The officer was informed the suspect, identified as Lupica, had fled the scene.
Upon arrival, the officer met with a woman, who had a significant amount of blood coming from her lower lip. According to court documents, the woman said Lupica was upset because the children in the residence woke up and would not go to sleep. A verbal argument started and the woman told Lupica to leave. Lupica then allegedly hit the woman in the face with a phone, pushed her against a wall and left the residence.
Three children were present during the altercation. It was later determined that Lupica was trespassed from Canterbury Apartments in May 2020.
While searching the area for Lupica, the officer was informed that Lupica had checked himself into the emergency room at Parkview Hospital. The officer went to the hospital and met with Lupica after he was assessed and discharged by hospital staff. Lupica told the officer that the woman attempted to take a phone from him and accidentally hit herself in the face. He left on foot from the area when the woman said she was going to call police.
Lupica has an initial hearing on this case at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5.
