Mary Ellen Gingerich
Mary Ellen Gingerich, 93, Milford, passed away at 5:37 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at Goshen Hospital.
She was born June 20, 1927, in LaGrange County to Jacob and Lydia Ann (Miller) Schlabach.
She married John Gingerich in LaGrange on Feb. 28, 1946. He passed away March 9, 2014.
Mary Ellen lived in the Milford area for 65 years. She was a member of the Salem Mennonite Church for all of those years. She was active as a Sunday school teacher and in the Sewing Circle. Mary Ellen enjoyed quilting and made quilts for all of her grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughters, Carolyn (Jerry) Helmuth, Wakarusa, Audrey (Eldon) Miller, Nappanee, and Jane (Art) Hershberger, Dillwyn, Va.; sons Merrill (Lola) Gingerich and Phillip (Jane) Gingerich, both of Milford; 19 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; half sister Katie Kuhns, Topeka; half brother Clarence Schlabach, Dalton, Wis.; and sister-in-law Ida Mae Schlabach, LaGrange.
She was preceded in death by her husband, to whom she was married for 68 years; parents; grandson Kevin Miller; great-grandchildren Trent Martin and Emily Kauffman; brothers Alvin and Walter Schlabach; four half brothers; three half sisters; three stepbrothers; and five stepsisters.
Family and friends may call from one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service on Monday, Jan. 11, at Salem Mennonite Church. Pastor Terrill Yoder will officiate. The service will be live-streamed at salemmennonite.church. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.
