Betty L. Putman
Betty L. Putman, 86, Argos, passed away at 7:37 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, at Hickory Creek of Winamac.
On Sept. 23, 1934, Betty Lou Harvey was born in Pulaski to George and Amanda (Winegardner) Harvey. Growing up, she shared her childhood with two brothers and six sisters. Betty was a 1952 graduate of Fulton High School.
In Rensselaer, Betty married Mr. Doyle Oliver Putman on April 5, 1952. They have shared 68 years of life’s adventures spending most of their life in Marshall County. From their union came two wonderful children, Gaye and Brent. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations
Betty was a farmer’s wife and homemaker, helping with farming, gardening, sewing, canning and taking care of her family’s needs. She was actively involved with her children’s activities at school and 4-H. To relax, she enjoyed the suspense of reading mysteries.
Betty also worked part-time at Schoonovers of Argos and was a member of the Walnut Ruralettes.
As the matriarch of the Putman family, Grandma Betty was proud to oversee four generations. She especially looked forward to family celebrations and the holidays, making memories to last a lifetime. Her greatest passion was her family and she loved her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her husband, Doyle; daughter, Gaye E. Welton and husband Gary of Grove City, PA; son, Brent D. Putman and wife Lisa of Anderson; four grandchildren: Andrew J. Welton and wife Rachel, Benjamin D. Welton, Caitlyn M. (Putman) Lail and husband Donny, Emily C. Putman-Buehler and husband Nathan; great-granddaughter Helena D. Lail; four sisters: Donnabelle Rogers and Doris Warner, both of Rochester, Carol Kindig of Akron, Barbara Holloway and husband Mike of Mentone; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Betty in death are her parents; two sisters, Marjorie Cave and Linda Brennan; and two Harvey brothers, George Jr. and Donald.
A celebration of the life of Mrs. Betty L. Putman will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 8, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester. Pastor Bob Rice will officiate. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Akron Cemetery.
