2020 Was a Year of New Beginnings

The staff at the Syracuse Library have finished a year that brought online stories and book clubs, limited contact with patrons that has included curbside services, and a whole new system of activities to keep the library clean. Patrons are printing shipping labels from their phones and checking out e-books and movies with their library card like never before.

New in 2021

Even people who are staying in a warmer place through the winter can join the book challenge where reading books will win rewards and recognition. The ‘I’m Breaking Out in 2021 Book Challenge’ is a plan to either surprise or push yourself to read a predicted number of books by October 15^th, 2021. Give the library information with your name, library card number, and a guess as to the number of books you will be reading in the next ten months to get either a paper log or an online spreadsheet. Sign up is on the Syracuse Library’s online venues or in person.

Adults can participate in a whacky book club where there is some discussion through email, an online quiz, and a zoom meeting. January’s book is Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. It is a coming-of-age story during the time of the cultural revolution in 1970’s China. 

Children and teens are invited into the library to pick out books. Children can ask to play with toys that are cleaned between each use. Miss Margo will read a story if requested. When the Governor and Health Department says it safe in-person programs will resume.
