Allen County’s David Gladieux Chosen As ‘Sheriff Of The Year’
INDIANAPOLIS – Leaders of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch today selected Allen County Sheriff David Gladieux as their “2020 Sheriff of the Year for his diligent work developing our not-for-profit academy for future law enforcement officers, at-risk kids, young witnesses and victims of crime.”
A volunteer board member and treasurer for the 62-acre training and recreational retreat under development for Indiana teens, Gladieux has enjoyed a longtime career in public safety.
Gladieux has spent more than three decades in law enforcement. He started with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department in 1985 as a civilian confinement officer. Over the years, he served as a dispatcher, K-9 handler, SWAT member and an arson investigator.
In 2007, Gladieux was promoted to chief deputy, a post he held until being elected sheriff in 2014. Gladieux was sworn in as Allen County’s 50th sheriff in January of 2015 and was re-elected in November of 2018.
Gladieux attended the National Fire Academy and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Only 1 percent of law enforcement personnel nationwide are invited to attend the FBI’s Academy in Quantico, Va.
“Sheriff Gladieux helped us purchase the perfect training retreat property featuring three lakes, rolling wooded ground and existing buildings already being used for Youth Ranch needs,” said Former Marion County Sheriff John Layton, ISYR’s board president.
In addition to his reputation for running a first-class jail and department, Gladiuex is often credited for his guidance in moving along the ISYR’s planning, programs and build-out, Putnam County Sheriff and ISYR Vice President Scott Stockton said.
“Anyone who knows Sheriff Gladieux knows he has a kind, servant’s heart. He attends our meetings and events, offers words of encouragement at every turn, and identifies and raises vital resources to keep things on track,” ISYR Secretary and Grant County Sheriff Reggie Nevels said. “David has formed teams for our annual Sheriffs’ Shotgun Shoot for firearms safety programs and partnered with his local Allen County Fair, BBQ Ribfest and Three Rivers Festival to help raffle new pick-up trucks each year for our statewide not-for-profit.”
Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel, who also serves as a Youth Ranch vice president, said “Sheriff Gladieux has been a leader among sheriffs on the project even though the youth training retreat is a distance from the community he loves and serves. No sitting sheriff has done more to support our initiatives, heighten awareness, raise needed funds and open doors to their local business community than David Gladieux. He knows the importance of sheriffs mentoring future deputies, bonding with at-risk kids and comforting young witnesses and victims of crime. That’s what makes him an outstanding sheriff and public servant. That’s why he is our 2020 Sheriff of the Year.”
