Betty J. Ward

Betty J. Ward, 85, Mishawaka, formerly of Nappanee, died at 11:09 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at her residence of natural causes.  She was born April 5, 1935, in Hicksville, Ohio, to Ike J. and Nina (Hart) Ish.

Mrs. Ward was a graduate of Hicksville Ohio High School. She moved to Nappanee in 1974. She had been a factory worker and a waitress. Betty was a member of Union Center Church of the Brethren.  She was also a member of the Eagle’s Lodge in Syracuse and Nappanee American Legion Auxiliary. She was a volunteer at Family Christian Development.  Betty enjoyed going to garage sales and Goodwill stores.

Surviving are her children, Cathy (Michael) Young, Granger, James Ward, Mishawaka; grandchildren, Ashley (Patrick) Walsh, Granger, Joshua Young, Plantation, Fla.; great grandchildren, Brynlee and Brayden Walsh; and nieces, Jessica Creech, Fort Wayne and Sue Ellen Tschanz, Hicksville, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Elliott and brother Max Ish.

According to Betty’s wishes, cremation will take place. Family and friends may meet at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 26, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee to go in procession to Union Center Cemetery for graveside service.  In case of inclement weather, services will take place at the funeral home. Rev. Frank Ramirez will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Family Christian Development Food Pantry
