Wawasee girls finish third in own invitational
The Lady Warriors competed with six other schools on Saturday at the Wawasee Swimming and Diving Invitational, held Saturday, Dec. 12. The green and gold came in third, finishing behind Culber Academy and Angola.
Individual winners included Lily Tyler in the 200 freestyle (2:03.24) and 500 freestyle (5:31.68); Riliegh Atwood in the 200 individual medley (2:24.65); and Cammy Kryder in the 100 backstroke (1:00.39).
The 400 freestyle relay team of Tyler, Neer, Atwood and Kryder finished first in 3:49.48.
Finishing second individually were Hayden Neer in the 50 freestyle, Cammy Kryder in the 100 butterfly, Hayden Neer in the 50 freestyle and Atwood in the 100 breaststroke.
Warrior boys swimmers place fourth
On the boys side, Wawasee took to the pool against seven opponents, taking fourth place on the team podium, looking up at Angola, Columbia City and Culver Academy.
Finishing on top in the 200 individual medley was Warrior Karlson Hand, who finished the race in 2:08.56. Nate Kryder also took home an individual first place finish, winning the 100 butterfly in 56.54.
Zeke Keim tallied second place points in the 100 backstroke, as did Kryder in the 200 freestyle.
In relay events, the 400 freestyle team of Kryder, Blake Roose, Keim and Joshua Metcalf came in second place. The 200 medley relay foursome of Keim, Hand, Kryder and Metcalf also earned runners-up honors.
Warsaw Girls 113, Goshen 72
Goshen Boys 101, Warsaw 85
Both Warsaw swim teams travelled to Goshen to take on the RedHawks on Saturday. The Tigers returned home with a split: the girls wining handily while the boys came home 16 points short.
Warsaw’s female individual event winners included Macelyn Marcuccilli in the 50 freestyle (27.26) and the 100 breaststroke (1:17.25); Gracie Willig in the 500-yard freestyle (5;52.22); and Mariana Malagon in the 100 backstroke (1:09.66).
The 200 medley relay team of Malagon, Marcuccilli, Maddy Morgan and Lillian Boston touched the wall first in a time of 2:05.42. Likewise, the 200 freestyle team of Boston, Marcuccilli, Madi Johnson and Gracie Scholl (1:50.61).
Second place finishes came from Willig in the 200 freestyle, Malagon in the 200 individual medley, Boston in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Morgan in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, Marissa Howett in the 500 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay team of Scholl, Rachel Doyle, Malagon and Howett.
On the boys side, first-place finishes came from Nathan Taylor in the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.62) and 100 butterfly (57.39), Michael Ray in the 50 freestyle (23.08) and the 100 freestyle (50.46) and Ian Wihebrink in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.06).
The 200 medley relay team of Cooper Archer, Wihebrink, Taylor and Ray (1:45.54) also finished first, as did the 200 freestyle relay quartet of Ray, Gabe Boweres, Taylor and Wihebrink (1:39.33).
Tigers finishing second included Jayce Sawyer in 1-meter diving and Archer in the 100 backstroke.
