Dr. Troyer Has Shown Humility And Vision For Wawasee Schools
Dear Editor:
This letter is to inform the community about the new superintendent of Wawasee Schools. I have known Dr. Steve Troyer for more than two years, working with him while he was principal at the Milford School and now as assistant superintendent.
I am also a parent with a student in Wawasee’s district. This has given me a unique perspective and insight about Dr. Troyer. Successful leadership works from the top down. When an educational leader has vision, is decisive, shows humility and has strong communication skills, teachers and staff can follow and be successful. Dr. Troyer exhibits all of these qualities.
I have seen first hand the vision Dr. Troyer has for our school system. As an instructional coach and reading interventionist, I have worked with Dr. Troyer on curriculum issues and was part of the interview team when he applied for the assistant superintendent position. During the interview, he laid out a comprehensive plan for the district. A big part of his plan included the implementation of PLCs (professional learning communities) in all our schools. These PLCs will be what drives quality instruction for Wawasee in the future. This is a process, though, and will take several years to completely implement.
Dr. Troyer knows how to make this happen. He has started by providing support and time for staff in this area along with arranging for professional development. PLCs will better inform instruction and keep our teachers student-centered in all we do at Wawasee.
This year the pandemic has made education extremely challenging for everyone. It has required decisive actions in the form of planning several different scenarios to open school this year. It too has required humility along the way as tensions have been heightened, and there have been many unknowns. Dr. Troyer was a huge part of getting school up and running successfully this year. He worked with our administrators to come up with plans on how to open safely. He communicated to staff and parents along the way.
There were numerous logistical items to work through ensuring the well being of all our students. Steve worked countless hours exhibiting decisiveness and humility, while keeping all stakeholders informed with clear communication.
I am thrilled Dr. Steve Troyer has been named the new superintendent of Wawasee Schools. His leadership will greatly impact our community, and I am excited to see how our students reap the benefits for years to come.
Sincerely,
