WARSAW — Two new officers should be joining the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office soon.
After its regular meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 9, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Merit Board had an executive session to work on hiring new officers. There were four applicants they were looking at for the positions.
Chief Deputy Shane Bucher said the office was hoping to have the new officers start Jan. 1.
COVID-19
During the public part of the meeting, Bucher provided an update to board members on how the office is dealing with COVID-19.
At the end of last month, Bucher said there was one entire shift on road-duty and working in the jail off related to COVID-19.
He said to his knowledge as of the time of the meeting nobody else had to be quarantined in the last week and a half due to COVID-19. He referenced the small number of prisoners in the jail who tested positive for the virus.
He was asked how the inmates may have contracted COVID-19. Determining that might be impossible to answer, Bucher said.
Bucher said a nurse and staff “monitor” the situation in the jail every day.
In coordination with the prosecutor’s office, the sheriff’s office is adjusting how it’s doing interviews to cut down on possible virus exposure.
