NorthWood 60, Concord 17
The Panthers jumped into their 2020-21 wrestling season with a resounding victory on the mats of NLC rival Concord. Ten of the 14 weights were contested with the three resulting in no-contest forfeits by the Minutemen in the 126, 132 and 285 classes and the last a double forfeit in the 113 class.
NorthWood wrestlers earned pins at 120 (Sam Schultz) 145 (Connor Ratcliff), 160 (Kaden Lone), 170 (Alex Walker), 182 (Trey Tobias), 195 (Joas Miller) and 220 (Blake Herr). Of the seven victories, only Herr’s went to a third period.
Mishawaka 73, Warsaw 0
The Warsaw Tiger Wrestling team hosted Mishawaka Wednesday night in an NLC dual. The Cavemen earned victories in each head-to-head, shutting out the Tigers and winning 73-0.
Warsaw wrestled well and had few good scoring opportunities, especially early, but wasn’t able to close out in critical scoring situations.
In JV action, Tigers Maddox Lozier and Chase Carl picked up wins in JV action to start the evening – both with exciting finishes. Lozier earned a 4-3 decision with a late reversal, while Carl picked up an 8-7 win in overtime.
The Tigers are now 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the NLC. They will host the Warsaw Invitational Duals on Saturday with Wawasee, Concord, New Haven, Elkhart and Fort Wayne Wayne heading to WCHS.
Peru 53, Tippecanoe Valley 30
Valley wrestling had a hard fought match against Peru Wednesday evening, eventually coming up on the short end of the Three Rivers Conference battle.
Five Viking wrestlers earned victories against their Tiger opponent, including pins by Drake Montelongo, Brandon Hammer, Bazle Owens, Dalton Alber and Ian Becker. Cameron Mason was also a winner by pin in JV competition.
The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday at Maconaquah in another TRC tilt.
