Verna Maierle
Verna Maierle, 96, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, at Goshen Hospital.
She was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Monroe County, Mich., to Eugene and Lillian Long McCarty. On June 11, 1941, she married Earl Maierle in Blissfield, Mich. He died in February 1976.
Survivors include three daughters: Sharen Staup, of Elkhart; Caren (Rev. Lynn) Chappell, of Harrison, Mich.; and Sue Romans, of Goshen; two sons: Loren (Donna) Maierle, of Albion; and Ray (Elizabeth) Maierle, of Goshen; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Forsyth, of Tecumseh, Mich.
Along her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Maierle; three sisters: Geraldine Hall, Marie Logan and Donna Holubik; six brothers: Roland, Erwin, Alvin, Virgil, Bruce and Max McCarty; six nieces and nephews; and two great-nephews.
Verna was a dedicated worker and for 30 years was employed by DePuy, Warsaw. In her spare time, she enjoyed being with her family. She devoted her life to her children and their activities. She also enjoyed outdoor work such as gardening and landscaping.
A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Leesburg Cemetery. Rev. Timothy Wesco will officiate.
