WARSAW — Tis the season for colds and the flu and with the added impact of COVID-19 quarantines, many students are staying home from traditional school and doing e-learning or online school instead.
Students from elementary to college are now having to find “new normal” ways of learning. If you or a student you know is struggling to find educational resources online, the library is definitely the place to start.
All students who live in the Warsaw Community School district (whether they attend Warsaw schools or not) are eligible for a free public library card. And that library card provides access to a plethora of free online resources from the library website. Some of the most popular educational resources include:
Scholastic GO! – This is a great resource for students of all ages. With an easy-to-use search engine and information divided up by reading level, it is a convenient way for students to do research for papers and projects. Scholastic GO! even includes an image search engine. Using Scholastic GO! is as easy as doing a basic Google search, except that you know that all the information is from reliable sources.
CultureGrams – For students (or anyone) looking for up-to-date information about different countries of the world, this is the place to look. CultureGrams gives facts and figures, but also goes beyond the numbers to give an insider’s perspective on daily life, customs and history of various world locations. Plus with a special “Kids Edition,” it is perfect for all ages.
LearningExpress Library – Perfect for anyone looking at college or career preparation, LearningExpress has study guides and practice tests for everything from the ASVAB to the SAT to postal worker, cosmetology and CDL license tests and more! Beyond college and career prep though, LearningExpress also includes resources for adults wanting to improve their math, reading and writing skills.
And this is just a small fraction of the online resources available from the library! We also subscribe to online Consumer Reports, Ancestry Plus, Rosetta Stone, Medline and the Chilton Auto Repair Reference Center – plus many others. WCPL has online resources for everyone – not only students. The library is excited to offer more than simply physical books – we want to deliver as many resources as possible in as many formats as possible in order to provide our community with high quality research options.
