WARSAW — A Milford man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly attacked a former girlfriend.
Richard Castle Jr., 57, 86 E. South St., Milford, has been preliminarily charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor; robbery, a Level 5 Felony; invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor; and theft, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on Oct. 2, a Warsaw police officer responded to a call for a welfare check. The caller said a vehicle appeared to be chasing a male. They said the vehicle was a gray Dodge pickup and eastbound on CR 250N from SR 15.
An officer found the truck and three people in it. The driver said she was trying to get escape from her ex-boyfriend, Castle, who had hit her and also taken $80 from her.
An officer found Castle near Teachers Credit Union. His ex-girlfriend said Castle just appeared at her house. The two dated for three years then broke up a few months before. She had been keeping her distance from him.
Castle and the woman started fighting when he came to her house. The woman didn’t want to anger the people she lived with, so she took off in the truck with Castle and two other people. The two others needed a ride to Walmart.
On the drive, Castle, who was driving, couldn’t hear a phone call he received due to the noise of the truck. Castle yelled at the woman, blaming her that he couldn’t hear the call.
Castle grabbed the woman by her hair, pulled her over the console and punched her with a closed fist. The woman lost several chunks of hair and had marks on her face from Castle hitting her.
Castle drove to the north edge of Walmart and turned off the truck. He said he was going to strand the group there. The woman tried to get the keys back when Castle took $80 out of the truck and left.
The two other people corroborated the woman’s story when questioned by an officer. Castle had been served a no-contact order related to the woman on Aug. 24.
