Warsaw Man Arrested After Pointing Firearm At People Following Road Rage Incident
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested after allegedly pointing a firearm at people during a road rage incident.
Christopher E. Chavez, 31, 1692 E. CR 200N Lot 206, Warsaw, is charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; and pointing a firearm, a level 6 felony.
On Oct. 25, a Warsaw Police officer received a report of a person pointing a firearm at someone. Dispatch told the officer that someone in a black BMW pointed a firearm at an individual; the reporting individual followed the vehicle until officers pulled the BMW over.
According to court documents, while walking toward the BMW, officers noticed a Glock handgun in the vehicle’s front passenger seat. It was later determined the firearm’s magazine contained 10 rounds of ammunition. The BMW’s driver was identified as Chavez.
When asked what happened, Chavez was allegedly evasive with his answers and said he wanted to speak to the other party involved. Upon being told the other vehicle’s occupants said he pointed a firearm at them, Chavez said he might have pointed his finger at the other vehicle and that they may have mistaken it for a gun. The officer then told Chavez he took the situation too far by introducing a gun into the incident, to which Chavez replied, “I understand.”
The officer then spoke with the people in the other vehicle. Two people said they were traveling north on North Detroit Street when Chavez passed their car and cut them off as he returned to the right lane of travel. When the BMW turned right onto Anchorage Road, Chavez stopped and pointed a firearm through his vehicle’s window at the two people.
Chavez has already been arrested and released on a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
