Wawasee High School Turns To Virtual Learning Through Nov. 13
News Release
SYRACUSE — Wawasee High School will have virtual learning only from Nov. 5-13 due to a large number of students either testing positive for COVID-19 or being in close contact with someone outside of school who has tested positive.
In a letter submitted to the Wawasee community it was noted “to be clear, WHS has not experienced an outbreak within the school itself as most positive cases have stemmed from outside of school.”
The same schedule will be followed as was used during the week of Sept. 8 when it was virtual only school for WHS. Some special needs students and the half day career and technical education students will still be brought into the high school.
Dr. Tom Edington, superintendent of the Wawasee Community School Corporation, said other Wawasee schools will remain open for in class learning although there are several students not coming in due to being in close contact with someone testing positive for COVID-19. “It varies by school. We want K-8 students to come to class as much as possible,” he said. “We don’t have enough subs so we only want to send students home as a last resort. That way we would have enough subs to go around the district.”
Edington noted some teachers are teaching virtually from home, but students are still coming in to their classrooms and being taught by substitute teachers.
