Lynda S. McCloughan — UPDATED
Lynda S. McCloughan, 78, Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
On Jan. 3, 1942, Lynda S. Hunter was born in Marshall County. She was the first born of the Hunter girls, the daughter of Nelson and Rosellen “Dixie” Dickson Hunter. Growing up, she shared her childhood with three sisters: Wanda, Kay and Patsy. In 1960, she graduated from Rochester High School. She then went to fort Wayne and studied business at the International Business College.
On Aug. 4, 1962, she married Ted McCloughan at the Silver Creek Church of God. They shared over 58 years of life’s adventures. From their union came five wonderful children: Kim, Anita, Rod, Brent and Darren. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.
With the migration of their children to Sarasota, Fla., she and Ted moved south to join them and actively participate as grandparents. After 17 years of grandkids, the warm sunshine, sand and surf, they returned home to Fulton County.
Over the years, she crocheted many gifts of warmth for her family. Gifted with her hands, she created wedding and bridesmaid dresses and Barbie clothes. She and Ted annually planted a huge garden. She canned the bountiful harvest and also made jelly. She and Ted tackled many remodeling projects over the years; as a team, they were home improvement specialists.
The matriarch of the McCloughan family, she was proud to oversee four generations. She looked forward to celebrating the holidays and special family events, making many memories. Spending time with her family and spoiling the grandchildren were her passions.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kim McCloughan, Sarasota, Fla.; Anita (Chris) Shultz, Marion; Rod (Dyan) McCloughan, Sarasota, Fla.; and Darren (Mitzi Richardson) McCloughan, Rochester; special son: Larry Carpenter, Rochester; grandchildren: Chance McCloughan, Benjamin McCloughan, Tyler Adams, Cameron Adams, Kaitlyn McCloughan, Trevor McCloughan, Drew (Ashley) Shultz, Kelsey (fiancé Dustin Scheiber) Shultz, Trey Shultz, Kayleigh Richardson, Kelsey (Chris Lowrykeller) Richardson and Jaeda Carpenter; four great-grandchildren: Hallelu Adams, Nevaeh Burke, Kaiden Lowrykeller and Shayla Lowrykeller; three sisters: Wanda (Rich) Wilhelm, Macy; Kay Eiler, Mentone; and Patsy (Steve Taber) Rowe, Monticello.
