Marjory J. Skersick
Marjory J. Skersick, 102, Rochester, passed away at 5:02 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, at Hickory Creek at Rochester.
She was born on Jan. 19, 1918, in Elkhart, the daughter of Charles Iverson and Erdine (Kenyon) Wyland. While at a dance with friends in Michigan in 1937, she met one of the musicians, Glenn A. Skersick. Ten days later on July 29, 1937, in Auburn, they married. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage before he passed away on May 6, 2001.
Mrs. Skersick along with her husband in the 1940s had owned and operated the Leiters Ford Cafe in Leiters Ford where she developed a reputation for her homemade pies. She later became a licensed real estate agent working for Burke Miller Realty. She had also worked for The Rochester Sentinel.
A devout Christian lady, Mrs. Skersick had been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, now Community Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and elder and in the Women’s Guild. She had been a board member with the Rochester/Lake Manitou Chamber of Commerce, volunteering for many years with the Round Barn Festival leading people on the round barn tours, and was a member of Psi Iota Xi sorority. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, quilting, knitting, golfing, taking walks, playing bridge and dancing with her late husband Glenn at The Elks to music from the Big Band era. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Penny (Michael) Terrone, Rochester, Stephen (Judy) Skersick, Greenwood, and Michael C. (Tami) Skersick, LaGrange, Ga.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Glenn Skersick; a sister; a half brother; and a half sister.
A private service will occur. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are handled by Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.
