Shawn Eugene Baker
Shawn Eugene Baker, 55, Sidney, died peacefully in his sleep at 10:46 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020. He had been in declining health due to liver problems.
He was born Nov. 3, 1964, in Columbia City, a son of Larry Eugene and Mary Diane (Faulkner) Baker. He graduated from Whitko High School in 1983 and continued his education at Ivy Tech, studying engineering.
On July 22, 1988, he married Angela J. Spangle. They made their first home in Mentone, moving to their home in rural Claypool about ten years ago.
He started his work career at B & B Machining, Milford, using his engineering skills to build the machinery that precisely bent pipe for the automotive industry. He then became employed by Lake City Medical, Warsaw as a production supervisor. He then joined Othy/Symmetry Medical now known as Techomet in Warsaw, where he continued as a production supervisor.
He enjoyed mentoring young boys and served as a Boy Scout leader in Mentone from 1995 to 2001.
He was an avid reader enjoying westerns. He was a fan of guns and enjoyed riding motorcycles. Studying martial arts, he became a black belt in taekwondo.
He is survived by his wife, Angela; a son, Christopher (Rachael Gick) Baker of Cincinnati; a daughter, Heather A. (Matthew Harris) Baker of Warsaw; his parents, Larry & Mary Baker of Pierceton; a sister, Aleta R. (Chauncey) Smith of Pierceton; grandchildren; Emma N. Gick-Baker, Cincinnati, Ohio, Jayce M. Harris, Ayden J. Harris, and Ethyn M. Harris all of Warsaw; a mother-in-law, Evaline (Ken Bisel) Spangle of Columbia City; sister-in-law, Deborah L. (Paul) Turner of New Ross; sister-in-law, Brenda K. (Jason) Tosi of Lowber, Pa., and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Wilbur and Cora “Susie” Baker, maternal grandparents, Raymond and Almeta Faulkner; father-in-law, Larry Spangle; great grandmother-in-law, Annie Owens; a cousin, Tracy Faulkner; uncle, Danny Baker and great-uncle, Harold Baker.
A memorial service at Pierceton United Methodist Church, 502 N. 1st Street, Pierceton, IN 46562, is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020. Arrangements are entrusted to Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
