UPDATE: Officers Cleared In Wabash Shooting; Murder Suspect Has Died
Press Release
WABASH — At 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, Wabash County Prosecutor William Hartley, Jr. conducted a press conference to provide more information on the Oct. 8 stabbing death of 10-year-old Kayden Sendelbach and subsequent police-involved shooting.
During the press conference, it was revealed that on Saturday, Oct. 24, William Sendelbach died at a Fort Wayne hospital. William had been charged with the murder of his son, Kayden. He also faced two counts of attempted murder. One charge stemmed from allegedly firing gunshots at an occupied garbage truck and a second came from shooting Wabash Police Sergeant Nick Brubaker in the right leg.
An autopsy has been scheduled for William. He had multiple bullet wounds as the result of an Oct. 8 shooting. On that date, William shot a Mossberg shotgun at Wabash Police officers. One of his rounds hit Sergeant Brubaker in the leg. Brubaker and Wabash Police Officer Daniel Henderson returned gunshots in defense of their lives.
Prosecutor Hartley said that Officer Henderson and Sergeant Brubaker were justified when they returned gunfire at William. They will not face any criminal charges.
Sergeant Brubaker has recovered from his injury and returned to duty.
