NorthWood Gets In Late Work
NorthWood added a late series of games Saturday in joining the Norse Classic volleyball invite hosted by Northfield.
The Red Slam went 3-1, going 2-1 in pool play and winning its consolation contest. NorthWood beat Woodlan and Knox 2-0 but fell to the hosts 2-1, losing 15-9 in the deciding third set. In the consolation contest, NorthWood beat Fort Wayne South Side 25-7, 25-14.
Stat leaders for the Panthers (24-7) include Alana Lehman with 30 kills, Ali Knepp with 26 kills, Kennedy Hochstetler with 16 digs and Kendal Miller with 42 digs and 82 assists.
NorthWood will meet either Tippecanoe Valley or Jimtown next Saturday at the Tippecanoe Valley Sectional.
Ridge, Wood Claim Undercard NLC Titles
The Northern Lakes Conference finished up its preparatory tournaments on Saturday with the completion of the JV and freshman competitions at Warsaw’s TRAC.
In the JV tournament, Northridge was the first to three wins, taking out Wawasee, Concord and Warsaw to take the championship, a 25-19, 25-20 winner over the Tigers.
Warsaw beat Goshen and Mishawaka in straight sets to make the final. Stat leader for the Tigers included Jael Namfukwe with 22 digs, 16 kills, an ace and a block, Delaney Silveus with 23 digs, nine kills, five aces and two assists, Clara Porter with 22 assists, 20 kills, 10 digs and four aces, and Sadie Walden with 18 digs, 11 aces, five assists and a kill.
Wawasee lost to Ridge in its opener, but rallied with two-set wins over NorthWood and Plymouth to finish fifth.
NorthWood dropped both of its JV games, losing to Concord and Wawasee.
In the freshman tourney, NorthWood claimed the title with three wins, taking down Wawasee in three, Northridge in two and Warsaw in the final 25-24, 22-25, 15-8. For the Panthers in the championship game included Maddy Birk with six kills and five digs, Sophie Vincent with four kills, Emery Porter with nine assists, three kills, three digs and two aces and Jessie Price with 12 digs and an ace.
Warsaw made the final with straights over Goshen and Mishawaka. Stat leaders for the Tigers in the championship match included Kenzie Chivington with 16 digs, seven kills and a block, Claire Reichenbach with 10 assists and three aces and Leah Henderson with 16 digs.
Wawasee lost to Ridge in three and Concord in two in its action.
