WARSAW — Downtown Warsaw was filled with a wide array of art during the First Friday Art-Tober event on Friday, Oct. 2.
Art-Tober featured children’s arts and crafts, face painting, live music and a “Splat Experience” created by Marc Eckel, Warsaw.
In this year’s First Friday presentation, Eckel focused on telling the story of United States President Abraham Lincoln; Eckel painted an artwork depicting the well-known president while a voice recording informed the audience about Lincoln’s life.
“Splat Experience” is a Christian performance art ministry that is locally based and has performed throughout the world.
The Columbia Street Jazz Quartet performed live music at the courthouse square; Lakeland Art Association also hosted its annual en plain-aire painting contest.
Local political candidates running for judge, county commissioner, county council and state representative positions were also at this month’s First Friday event. Many of the candidates passed out free goodies and popcorn while talking with community members.
Despite slightly cooler temperatures, many attended the evening’s artistic festivities and several vendors set up shop along the streets. Free hayrides and hot chocolate were also on hand for anyone wanting to relax and warm up.
This month’s event is sponsored by The City of Warsaw, the Dr. Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation and the Warsaw Community Development Corporation.
