Bremen 5, Triton 0
Bremen held serve in defending its sectional title at its home DeSantis Courts Wednesday in the semi-finals of the four-team Bremen Sectional.
After Triton won three titles at the Hoosier North Athletic Conference championships, including HNAC Player of the Year John Gardner, Triton couldn’t get anything going against the Lions.
Mark Bahr navigated a sharp and swirling wind at DeSantis to defeat Gardner love and three. Carson Miller and Dawson Hickman lost a total of four games in completing the singles sweep in defeating Connor Large and Cole McKinney, Miller love and one and Hickman one and two.
Doubles were total sweeps for the Lions, with Shay Kyser and Mason Porter blanking Riley Linville and Chandler Westafer while Mariano DeLeon and Camden Hickman did the same to Damon Kurtz and Chris King.
On the other side of the boulevard, John Glenn pulled a mild upset in defeating Plymouth 3-2. Four of the five courts went three sets, and the other featured a pair of tiebreakers.
Anthony Kaser and Joe Delinski both won in singles play over Drew Harrell and Carter Snyder, and Noah Dreibelbeis and Francesco Lizzi put away Logan Sniadecki and Liam Fort.
Plymouth clung to wins from Bennett Christy in singles and Easton Strain and Cameron Shively in doubles.
Bremen and Glenn will meet for the sectional title Thursday. The Lions are looking for its second straight after breaking a 16-year drought last fall while the Falcons are searching for its first-ever title.
Wawasee 4, Columbia City 1
Timely rain hit Kosciusko County just in time to force the Warsaw Sectional indoors from its predestined Columbia City hosting. The Wawasee win was played at Eastlake Tennis.
Wawasee’s doubles teams were strong, led by No. 1 Grant Brooks and Blaine Baut knocking off Tanveer Singh and Jaxon Crawford one and one. The No. 2 team of Ty Brooks and Nathan Harper put away Peyton Pope and Benjamin Kuhmichel two and four.
One and two singles also held up their end, with Holden Babb beating Alex Rongos love and four while Zeke Keim put away Noah Finefrock one and three. Tobey Krider won the three singles match against Devon Kuhn four and one.
The win for the Warriors sets up a semi-final match against Tippecanoe Valley while Warsaw and Whitko will jump into the other semi-final to be played at Columbia City on Thursday.
NorthWood 4, Bethany Christian 1
NorthWood’s quest to repeat as sectional champion took the first step Wednesday with a win over the Bruins.
Wood swept all three singles courts, led by a one and one win from No. 1 Ben Vincent over Braden Bohn and two and love roll from No. 2 Brady Chupp over Theo Siemens-Rhodes. Chaz Yoder also played well in a two and two conquest of Josh Cartwright at No. 3.
Gage Gongwer and Treyton Martin continued its march with a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (5) marathon over Tyson Miller and Joseph Mounsitharaj.
The Flying Shenks, Aaron and Austin, bested Brad Demitruk and Charles Anderson 6-3, 7-6 (4) to pick up the lone Bruins point.
Goshen knocked off Fairfield, 4-1, in the other semi-final – needing to finish at Goshen College due to darkness – to finish the evening. Fairfield’s Colin Hochstedler kept his season alive with a win at one singles, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3, while Goshen won all of the other courts.
The RedHawks will host NorthWood Thursday in the sectional final.
