SOUTH BEND – The University of Notre Dame says the 2021 spring semester will begin Feb. 3 with in-person classes. The start of the semester will be three weeks later than originally scheduled, and classes will end two weeks later.
To accommodate for the late start, the school says it will forgo spring break and end classes May 1.
Final exams will be held May 14, 15, 17, 18 and 19, and commencement ceremonies will take place the weekend of May 22-23.
“The cold temperatures of winter will not allow us to use outdoor spaces as we have so far this fall, and the winter months are also the peak for seasonal flu in this region,” said University of Notre Dame President Rev. John Jenkins.
The fall semester is ending before Thanksgiving. Notre Dame says that means the break between the fall and spring semesters will last for ten weeks. The university says because of that extended stretch, it will offer what it calls a winter session of the 2021 Spring Semester.
Students will have an opportunity for internships, additional online courses and career development programming.
