NorthWood 5, Wawasee 0
It was a rough night for the home team Warriors as they dropped a match to NLC rival NorthWood without claiming a single court.
In the singles portion of the evening, Panther ace Ben Vincent made quick work of Holden Babb 6-1, 6-0 on the one court. Number two Brady Chupp dispatched Zeke Keim 6-1, 6-2, while Chaz Yoder needed a little more work but eventually took care of Warrior #3 Devon Kuhn 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
On the first doubles court, Panthers Gage Gongwer/Treyton Martin beat Grant Brooks/Blaine Baut four and four, while their second court teammates Brad Demitruk/Charles Anderson took care of Wawasee’s Ty Brooks/Nathan Harper 6-1, 7-5.
On the JV courts, NorthWood came away with three wins out of the five matches contested.
Both teams head into the NLC tournament on Wednesday, which will be held at Concord High School. NorthWood finishes their conference round robin at 4-3 while the Warriors end the NLC slate at 1-6.
Grace Men 7, Trine 0
Grace’s men’s tennis team will enter the Crossroads League Tournament with momentum after blanking Trine 7-0 on Monday.
The Lancers (9-1) are winners of three straight matches. Grace finished as the runner-up in the regular season for the Crossroads League and will host No. 7 seed Bethel on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
With a win on Tuesday, Grace would host the semifinals on Thursday. The championship is scheduled for Saturday to be played at the highest remaining seed.
Fabricio Galvan, Ivan Antinori and Nicolas Graber were all involved in two points for Grace on Monday.
Galvan and Antinori won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Gruber teamed up with Max Rozas to win 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. Gruber battled to a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, Galvan was almost perfect (6-1, 6-0) at No. 1 singles, and Antinori cruised 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4.
Jacob Gray and Ramiro Candia completed the doubles’ sweep by winning 6-2 at No. 2.
Mauricio Corty picked up a straight set win at No. 2 singles, and Kye Barrett (No. 3) and Milan Savic (No. 6) also won in singles’ play.
Grace Women 7, Concordia 0
Grace’s women’s tennis team earned its third straight win thanks to a 7-0 sweep of Concordia on Monday.
The Lady Lancers will enter this week’s Crossroads League Tournament with a sterling 10-2 record (6-2 CL).
Grace earned the No. 3 seed in the tourney and will host Bethel on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The semifinals will be played Thursday with the championship scheduled for Saturday.
Anna Graves and Ellie Hughes each earned two points for Grace on Monday. Graves teamed up with Dayana Ortega to win 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and she also won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Hughes cruised 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and also combined with Gretchen Adams to win 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Addy Jarvis and Rachel Bognar blanked their opponent at No. 3 doubles to complete the doubles’ round.
Jayna Armstrong (No. 1), Morgan Mast (No. 4), Lauryn Riegsecker (No. 5) and Kiersten Martin (No. 6) all won in straight sets during singles’ play.
