Harrington, Payne Earn Crossroads Honors
AVON, Ohio – Gabbey Harrington of Grace’s volleyball team was named the Crossroads League Setter of the Week on Monday.
Additionally, Bethel University freshman Maddy Payne was tabbed the league’s Defender of the Week.
The Lady Lancers have now had four players earn Player of the Week honors from the Crossroads League this season, including Anna Frey, Julia Nagy, Makaela Lochmueller and Harrington.
Grace won both of its matches last week to improve to 5-0 (5-0 CL). The highlight of the week was Grace’s sweep of No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan. Harrington posted a double-double with 21 assists, 10 digs, 3 kills and 1 block assist to beat IWU.
On Saturday, Harrington added 38 assists, 4 kills, 6 digs and 4 block assists to beat Huntington on the road.
Harrington also garnered the NAIA Setter of the Week award for her work.
The Lady Lancers face a stiff test on Wednesday, playing at No. 1 Marian. Grace returns home on Saturday to host Bethel.
Payne, a NorthWood grad, collected 12 total blocks to go with 16 kills in Bethel’s victories over Taylor and MVNU. The freshman middle narrowly missed a double-double in a sweep of Mount Vernon Nazarene with 10 kills and nine blocks.
Along with the two locals, Northridge grad and Indiana Wesleyan goalkeeper Hope Stacker was named the women’s soccer Defender of the Week. Stacker piled up 18 saves in 215 minutes of work for No. 7 IWU, helping the Wildcats battle to a 1-1 draw with No. 14 Grace and a 1-0 shutout of No. 24 Spring Arbor.
